Let’s talk hypertension - the Silent Killer
A symptomless disease that often strikes out of the blue in the form of a stroke or heart attack wiping out your quality of life in an instant. Why is detecting hypertension so dismal – 3 in 5 are unaware of raised blood pressure. A fifth of those diagnosed worldwide are uncontrolled.

Is the 100-year-old BP technology we use still adequate?
Background
Norman de Villiers was privileged to complete a post graduate MPhil research project as part of the incredible ADAVANCE Study, a collaboration between the Military, Kings College, Imperial College and Bournemouth University, following soldiers with combat related traumatic injuries (amputations), over a 20-year period. This innovative study, funded by the Help for Heroes Fund, compares the injured cohort with a frequency matched healthy cohort of military personnel, to observe changes in parameters such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, early. Norman applied pulse wave analysis to determine if CVD risk was already affected in the first five years after injury.
